American flag on Crow Island.

Our first short normal weekend of the season.  But a great one!  Perfect weather, great wildlife and a big bass.

Saturday 25th -Started of partly cloudy and 63 F degrees.  Very light southwest wind.  Fished 7:00 a.m - 11:30 a.m.  Fished the Devils Graveyard, Emery Island shoal, Middle Point bay and Dwaynes Island.  Caught 9 bass.  Best was 3 lb 6 oz near M.P.B.  We saw our first Bald Eagle since coming to Black Lake for seven seasons.  It was big and beautiful.  We watched it fly into the Devils Graveyard and perch on a big deak oak tree.
Fished 7:00 p.m - 8:05 p.m.  Sun is setting much earlier now that we are in late August.  Fished Conger Island and caught 5 bass.  But Denise caught a big hawg!  A nice 4 lb 9 oz largemouth.  It's her new personal best.  14 total bass for the day.  Today's high temp was 89 degrees F.  What a great day!

Sunday 26th - Clear to start, 68 degrees F, light southwest wind.  Fished 7:55 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Fished at Upper Deep Bay, Devils Graveyard and The Cut.  Caught 9 bass.  Had a couple nice smallmouth bass close to 3 pounds.  They sure do put up a good fight.  Another beautiful day weather wise.  It's really hard to believe how much fantastic weather we have had this year.  Lake water level is still exceptionally low due to lack of rainfall this year.

23 total bass for the weekend.  A Bald Eagle sighting.  And Denise catches her biggest bass ever.  What a AWESOME weekend.  Next week we have a long four day holiday weekend.  Can't wait!  Well, that a wrap folks.  Until next time folks...                 Fish On!

August 17th - 20th fishing report

4 lb 9 oz Fatty.

Denise and Bella with her first fish.
 Bella finishing up the popcorn.
Arrived at the lake Thursday night.  Killed 27 million little bugs with my truck on the way up.  I should probably clean my windshield this weekend.  We brought Bella the grandpuppy with us.  She is dying to fish with us. ha ha.

Friday 17th -  Windy as heck!  No chance to fish in that nonsense.  Waaaaaaaaa.

Saturday 18th -  Clear in the morning to start but chilly 58 degrees.  Fished 6:40 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.  Caught 9 bass.  Landed a 4 lb 9 oz Lunker around 9:30 a.m near R.P. Bay.  It buried itself deep in the tumbleweeds.  But it was no match for me. :)  It's the 8th bass over 4 lbs this year.
Fished 6:20 p.m. - 8:10 p.m.  Caught 14 bass.   Bella came with us and caught her first bass of the year.  The Devils Graveyard was hot again!  23 total bass for the day.

Sunday 19th - Started out sunny and 56 degrees.  Fished 8:20 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  Caught 9 bass.  Nothing special.  Worked Upper Deep Bay, Devils Graveyard, Jennies Island and Lonesome Bay.  No evening fishing.  It was too windy.

Monday 20th -  Clear and cold in the morning, 50 degrees. No wind.  Fished 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.  Caught 9 bass.  Fished The Devils Graveyard, Emery Island shoal and the mouth of Fish Creek.

Caught 41 total bass for the long weekend.  The lake level is still low.  The lowest I have ever seen it.   The lake is starting to loose it's green tint from the algae bloom.  It should be cleared up in a couple weeks.  The are still some nasty looking weeds that should also clear up soon.  Now only if the bite would pick up.  Well, that's all for this time folks.  Until next time...                Fish On!

Lakeview into Lonesome Bay.
4 lb 3 oz largemouth bass
Denise with a nice bass on a nice day.
4 lb 10 oz lunker of the week and 3 lb 10 oz.  A good rainy morning for a couple lunkers.
Last day of week long vacation 3 lb even smallmouth bass.  Nice vertical stripes on the bronzeback.
Another great week long vacation in the books!  Arrived to blazing hot weather on Saturday.  95 degrees! One and a half inches of rain in the guage from the previous days.  Ended up with a mixed bag of weather for the week.  Had a couple days with some much needed rain.  But generally a good week.  Lake water level is up a couple inches by the time we left.  Algae bloom has peaked and water has been green for around three weeks now.  The fish bite was difficult most of the week although we did land a few nice lunkers.  On Friday I managed to catch the biggest to date.  A 4 lb 10oz lunker.  Beating the previous big one by one ounce.

Thursday August 9th - Fished 7:00 a.m - 9:30 am.  Short day of fishing.  Started out extremely foggy and overcast. 60 degrees and no wind.  Visibility was very poor and dangerous so we didn't go too far from the cottage.  Caught 3 bass.  No evening fishing.  Got lots of rain so we took is easy today.

Saturday August 11th - Fished 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Had a light rain overnight.  Mostly cloudy to start out and 65 degrees.  Caught 21 bass.  Secret honey hole was active again.  But this time it was active around noon.  Also had a brief rain shower.  No evening fishing.

Sunday August 12 - Fished 8:45 a.m - 11:45 a.m.  Final outing of the week.  Overcast skies 65 degrees.  Caught 3 bass.  One was a nice 3 lb even smally.  Those smallmouth sure do put up a fight!

92 total bass for the week.  Quantities are down compared to earlier in the season.  But we did manage some nice size bass.  Hot weather, warm water, low lake level and algae blooms are all factors in the decreased catch rate.  But we did enjoy are week long vacation at the lake once again.  As we always do!  Well that's a wrap.  Until next time folks...   Fish On!
