Dash for Cash weekend report.  We did not do well in the tournament Sunday.

Saturday Sept 14th -  Practice day. Caught 9 bass.  Cool, 45 degrees to start.  Fished 7am until noon.  3 lb 9 oz best.  Our hot spot was good first thing in the morning.  Caught 3 keepers in five minutes, then left.  Denise caught a nice Pike.

Sunday Sept 15th -  Dash for Cash tournament day.  48 degrees, clear with s/w wind to start.  We were in the boat at 5:30 am.  Launch at 6:25am.  Pretty windy and would get very windy later in the day.  We caught 10 bass for the day, but could only manage 7 lbs 1 oz.  It got so windy by 3 pm we decided not to ride back to the weigh-in docks.  Very big waves!!!  Too risky, and somewhat dangerous with the long boat ride.  Our best three bass were 2 lbs 9 oz, 2 lbs 4 oz (smally), and another 2 lb 4 oz smally.  Needless to say we had a tough and disappointing day.  Our hot spot yesterday produced nothing today.  Go figure.  After we boated back to our cottage we snapped a couple fish pics and drove the car to the weigh-in.  The winning team had 12.21 lbs.
2nd place = 11.61 lbs.  3rd place = 11.57 lbs.  10th place = 10.04 lbs.  23rd place = 9.19 lbs gets first launch next year.  To get in the money you needed better than 9.19 lbs.
Hourly Lunkers:
1 = 4.81 lbs
2 = 4.75 lbs
3 = 5.14 lbs (Lunker of the Day)
4 = 4.80 lbs
5 = 4.40 lbs
6 = 4.25 lbs
7 = 4.84 lbs
Lady Lunker = 4.79 lbs
Biggest Smallmouth = 3.73 lbs

That wraps up this years Dash.  Can't wait till next year.  Until next time folks...    Fish On!

Sept 7th & 8th fishing report

4 lb 5 oz lunker

A windy weekend and tough fishing.

Saturday Sept 7th -  Caught 4 bass.  Fished 8 am till noon.  Fished The Devils Graveyard, which was dead.  LOL!  Fished RP and MP bays.  No evening fishing.  It was a windy day.

Sunday Sept 8th -  Caught 10 bass.  Fished 7:30 am till 11:30 am.  A very windy day.  Winds were out of the northwest.  Stayed behind Conger Island to dodge the winds.  Managed to catch a nice 4 lb 5 oz lunker on a Senko.

We had hoped to get some good practice in for next Sundays Dash for Cash.  But that didn't happen.  Just too windy.  Last chance to practice will be Saturday.  Until next time folks...  Fish On!

August 31st to September 2nd fishing report

View from our deck September 1st

Just a nice clean Black Lake bass.

Evening clouds rolling in before last cast.

We had a nice Labor Day holiday at the lake.  Very relaxing.  No big ones this trip.

Saturday August 31st - Caught 28 total bass today.  The bite was on, but no lunkers.  Fished 9:15 am until 1pm.  We did well around Conger Island for a change.  Also fished near RP and MP Bays.  Caught 15 bass in the morning.  Although the weeds are thinning out, slimy weeds are still around and very annoying.  Fished 4pm until dark.  Caught 13 bass.  Upper Deep Bay was slow.  Caught most in The Cut and Conger.

Sunday Sept. 1st - Caught 11 bass for the day.  The bit slowed down today.  Beautiful weather.  Lake was flat most of the day.  Most areas south were protected from the light northeast wind.  Fished 6:45 am until noon.  Caught 6 bass.  We tried some new areas on the north west shoreline and near the bridge.  Bite was slow, even though we found some good weed lines and drop offs.  Fished 6:30 pm until 8 pm.  Caught 5 bass between Emery Island and Jennies.

Monday Sept. 2nd - Caught 3 bass between 9:15 am and noon.  Collected 6th water sample of the year.  Only 2 more to go.

42 total bass for this trip.  Had one 3 lb even, best of the trip.  Next weekend we will be practicing for the upcoming Dash for Cash and trying to find some active locations.  Some folks are catching some lunkers out there.  Noticed a 5 lb 12 oz and a 6 lb 6 oz posted on facebook.  It's a shame the 6 pounder was not released!  Theses big females need to released.  It's much better to keep a handful of smaller ones to eat.

Until next time folks...    Fish On!

August 24th - 26th fishing report

First Bass of the day.

3 lb 14 oz

Nuttin' special here.

East bay shore.

Saturday night campfire & marshmellows.

Denise with Bella at Way Cool.

Another nice weekend at Black in the books.  We had Wayne take down a big dead Elm tree near our cottage.  It's a big relief to have it down.  We've been worried about a storm knocking it down onto our cottage.  The weekend brought really nice weather again.  The fishing was decent.  Biggest was 3 lbs 14 oz.

Saturday August 24th -  Caught 13 bass.  Fished 8:15 am to 1:30 pm.  The weather was so nice we didn't want to come in.  Lake was calm and the skies were sunny.  We fished Red Point Bay, Crab Island Jennies Island and our favorite buoy.  In the evening we fished in our bay from 6:45 pm till dark.  Caught nadda!  That's why I don't like fishing in our bay.

Sunday August 25th - Caught 23 bass for the day.  Fished 6:45 am to 11:45 am.  Caught 17 in the morning.  Had one 3 1/2 pounds but had to let it go quickly.  It swallowed the hook, so I had to do the hook removal through the gills trick.  It seems to work pretty good and gives the fish a good chance of living.  Fished 6:00 pm till 7:30 pm, alone.  Caught 6 bass.  Caught one really nice 3 lb 14 oz near Upper Deep Bay.  It was a fighter!  It pulled the drag out and dove pretty strong.  I thought maybe I had a 5er, but no luck.

Monday August 26th -  Met with Wayne the contractor.  No fishing today.  Went home early.

36 bass for this trip. So the bite seemed pretty good this trip.  The weeds and weed lines are changing quickly now.  Some areas that had thick weeds are starting to clear and clean up.  Some areas in Lonesome Bay are still holding slimy weeds.  The lake is changing as we get deep into the summer and Autumn is around the corner.  The Dash for Cash Big Bass Tournament is only three weeks away.  Getting excited as usual.  Until next time folks...  Fish On!

August 17th - 19th fishing report / Zona sighting

4 lb 11 oz slab August 19th

3 lb 14 oz slice August 19th

Mark Zona fishing Black Lake. "Zona's Awesome Fishing Show" is aired on The Outdoor Channel.

Caught a couple nice lunkers on this trip.  Caught them back to back!  How sweet!  The weather was great too.

Saturday August 17th -  16 total bass for the day.  Fished 6:45 am until noon.  Caught 11 bass.  Fished 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.  Caught 5 bass.  No big ones today.  We did manage 1 average size pike.  Hot sunny day.  Lake was calm in the morning and only a slight breeze in the afternoon.

Sunday August 18th -  Caught 9 bass for the day.  Fished 8:30 am until noon.  Another sunny day with only light winds.

Monday August 19th -  Caught 7 bass for the day.  Two were lunkers.  Caught a really nice 4 lb 11 oz bass.  This one was fat!  When I got it in the boat I swore it was going to be a 5 pounder.  But it was 5 oz short.  Just calibrated my digital scale before this trip so I know it accurate.  Next catch was a nice 3 lb 14 oz.  What a great morning!

32 total bass for this trip.  We burned most of our vacation days now.  Most fishing reports will be short.

We also found out that Mark Zona (from Bassmasters and Zona's Awesome Fishing Show) spent some time fishing Black Lake.  He took some time off from the Bassmaster Elite Series, Showdown at the St. Lawrence River.  Apparently he did some filming for one of his shows.  On his website he said he 'caught 60 bass on camera, flipping n' froggin'. Great Lake!'

Special message to the clueless/careless Pontoon boat who came within 20 feet of our boat while we were fishing in "The Cut", near shore -  SUCK IT!!!  YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!! 8/22 edit-  Now that I've calmed down since my initial rant , I removed one harsh word before 'idiot'.  LOL.

Until next time folks...Fish On!

August 10th - 13th fishing report

4 lb 10 oz Lunker August 12th
4 lb 7 oz Lunker August 11th
3 lb 7 oz August 10th

Highlight of this trip was going to see the Bassmaster Elite tournament at the St. Lawrence River in Waddington.  We had a great time.  It was our first time seeing the pros in person.  Brandon Palaniuk was the winner.  KVD missed the final cut so we didn't get to see him.  His nephew JVD was there and took second place.

For our fishing this trip, the bass bite was slow, but we managed to catch a couple nice lunkers.

Saturday August 10th -  Caught 13 bass for the day.  Best for the day was 3 lb 7 oz.

Sunday August 11th - Caught 5 bass in the morning.  No evening fishing.  The day started very slow with nary a fish for the first hour or so.  Then BAM!  Wrestled in a 4 lb 7 oz hawg for the first fish of the day at S.I.    Finished with a 3 lb even near MPB.

Monday August 12th -  Caught 6 bass for the day.  Caught the second biggest bass of the year at 4 lb 10 oz.  Like yesterday, it was the first fish caught of the day.  Caught it south of our cottage at one of my favorite spots when I don't want to travel too far away.

Tuesday August 13th -  Chill out day!  No fishing.  Heading home early.

We had a great trip again as usual.  24 total bass for the trip with some nice lunkers.  We had great weather all four days.  No rain at all until Tuesday.  And it only rained a few minutes early in the morning.  Until next time folks...    Fish On!

August 11, 2013 Bassmaster Elite Series Evan Williams Bourbon Showdown at the St. Lawrence River

We went to the Bassmaster final day weigh in and had a great time.  Here is a few pics.
